DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY
The Department of History is as old as the Nagarjuna College itself. It originated in 1956 along with the college as a constituent part of it. It offered students social science with a combination of EHP Group (Economics-History-Political Science) in the Arts Faculty.
The department has two sanctioned posts and it continues to be still date. Besides EHP group, History was offered as an optional subject along with Telugu, English and Urdu Literature from 1988-89 onwards a new course HGMJ(History-Geography- Mass Communication and Journalism ) was introduced in 1998-99. Another new course HRHP was introduced with subjects, Human Rights and Political Science as Combinations in 2009-10.. DOH offers EHP,THP,HGMJ, and HRHP courses to a strength of ________students of whom, Men were _______ and women___________.
The DOH has evolved over all these years based on concentrated efforts of the members of staff , focusing on the Indian History with a special reference to the regional perfections. The courses are designed to offer students a broad view of the world History as well as specialization in the History of AP with specific emphasis on its cultural and socio-economic conditions.
After the N.G.College turned Autonomous in 2007-08, the DOH designed syllabus taking the changing needs of the day and students into consideration. The members of the Department have voluminous experience to their credit imparting quality education to students. They keep themselves updated about the changing aspects of History at the regional, National and International levels.
Viewing the needs of the changing society, the DOH has envisaged a plan of future action to introduce job oriented courses like Tourism and Trade management to enable students join the social milieu easily.
